I believe that Art is an essential part of any society, and by working together we can celebrate what is good through public artworks. The first exhibition I went to as a young person was to see work by Diego Rivera, and the way he used public art to celebrate his culture left a lasting impression. I was a secondary school Art teacher for 14 years. I worked for 8 of them as a senior teacher in a pupil referral unit helping young people with additional needs. This was lived experience of the transformative power of Art in many different forms. Empowering others by sharing creative skills is one of the most rewarding things you can do.

As well as giving time to work with local charities, the majority of my community work has been as part of The Walldogs. We are an American public art movement made up mainly of signpainters who give their time for free in return for hospitality and a great feeling of achievement. We specialise in commemorative murals which use the visual language of old advertisements. I have participated in many Walldog Festivals across the USA, as a Lead Artist/Designer and also as a specialist pictorial or lettering artist.

Walldog murals are painted as part of a 4 day festival which brings communities together to celebrate their history and create a lasting legacy across the town for the years to come. You can find out more about the Walldogs by watching this little film
